Ezekiel 33:7 Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me
One advantage of security systems is their ability to make noise after detecting breaches. Therefore, anytime a breach goes undetected, questions are asked to ascertain why the system failed. In applying this to humans, a watchman can be seen as a security system whose primary asset is their attentiveness and use of their voice or other media to sound alarms.
Whenever a warning system malfunctions in practice, lives and property could be lost. So even though a watchman may enjoy silence personally, from their vantage point while at post, silence is not an option because it equates to loss.
We are each set as watchmen over different things: some over families and businesses, while others watch over ministries and systems. Among the things we do in that capacity is to identify danger and sound the alarm. We can simply not operate as “silent watchmen” because in that capacity, too much will be lost on our watch.
