KEEP YOUR HEAD UP

There is an unspoken rule at bus stops: unless someone aligting, anyone waiting  to board has to indicate for the bus to stop. I have made an observation on my commutes while on the bus: on a myriad of occasions, people have been left behind at the bus stop because their eyes were glued to their phones.

While some drivers anticipate this and may slow down, majority will simply just continue on. As though to say “we respect your priorities”. Such ‘potential passengers’ therefore end up having to watch the bus go by without them. That is how many of us have missed the connections to where we ought to be, and lost opportunities that are presented to us.

‘Heads up’ sounds like a simple phrase, but it is weighty. When God called Abraham after lot had departed, his words to him were: “Now lift up your eyes from the place where you are,” – (Genesis 13:14). You can only have a clear view of where you ought to head  when your eyes are lifted up to see.

When your eyes are lifted up, in addition to a faster pace, you can also see impending danger and opportunities. So keep your head up and stop fixing your gaze down.
