2 Thessalonians 3:17 I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand, and this is a distinguishing mark in every letter; this is the way I write.
Without much effort, when you see some specific pictures or hear specific sounds, only one image comes to mind. That is why many corporations have strived to carve out a niche place in the market for themselves hence are known for specific products, tastes, or designs.
St Paul in his concluding remarks to the Thessalonians touches on this concept of ‘personal branding’. His words were ‘this is the way I write’. In that way any piece of work that was missing that signature by default, could be contended as not belonging to Paul.
It is very easy to think of ‘personal branding’ as a concept belong to the world, but to the believer, it is equally an essential feature. Scripture in many ways builds for many of its characters a personal brand such that the very moment any name is mentioned, specific stories and traits come to mind. That is intentional.
Let’s do a quick check:
Jesus – prayer and teaching with many parables
Joseph – the dreamer and forgiving prime minister
David – killing Goliath and king of Israel
Daniel – wisdom, prayer and the lions den
‘Personal branding’ becomes clear when an individual has understood their God given assignment and found their place. Where they don’t compete to be like another. You may be memorable for many things, but if the world was to remember or know you for one thing, what would it be?
What way of working or communicating is so characteristic of yours that even in your absence, your signature can be recognized?
