ACCESS THROUGH PROXIMITY ONLY

Matthew 13:36 NIV Then he left the crowd and went into the house. His disciples came to him and said, “Explain to us the parable of the weeds in the field.”

In the final address of the former Prime minister of the UK a few weeks ago, he expressed appreciation for how the opposition leader had reached out to him ‘privately’ at a time when his family was going through a difficult spell. The whole nation would have been surprised because the exchanges we saw in parliament between the pair suggested nothing but animosity. Yet, behind closed doors, the story differed.

Throughout the ministry of Jesus, parables were a central place. However, we witness that this was often a medium used in communicating to the crowd. Meaning was however often reserved for when He was with his disciples ‘in the house’, and away from the crowd’.

There are companies where access to certain floors is restricted solely to those who are meant to be there. Thus, there is a layer of knowledge meant for the crowd and another layer meant for those inside the house. That is directly proportional to proximity, and in our context, intimacy.

There is an African proverb that says ‘it is the chick closest to the hen that gets the thigh of the grasshopper’. To access deeper things and gain access to critical intelligence, you have to draw closer to God. In fact, the aim is to be in the same house with Jesus.  Otherwise, all you will interact with is the same information the crowd has.
