KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING

Jeremiah 3:15, 16a Then I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding.” And it will come to pass, when you⁺ have multiplied and increased in the land,

If we think of today’s text as a literary prose subject to the laws of English grammar, then two interpretations are possible:
1. The shepherds themselves will have knowledge and understanding as the basis of their guiding OR
2. The shepherds will feed the flock with ‘knowledge and understanding’ as the content.

Regardless of where you lean, the impact is seen in the verse which follows: ‘multiplication and increase’. The same root word translated in God’s charge to man to be ‘fruitful and multiply’ (Gen 1:22)

Any one who has achieved much in any sphere has harnessed the ability to glean knowledge, obtain [skillful and godly] wisdom and has actively sought understanding [spiritual discernment, mature comprehension, and logical interpretation]( Proverbs 4:7). Among the many things that guide increase and growth is ‘knowledge and understanding’, and those are anchors for champions.

In the absence of knowledge and understanding, what leads the way is darkness, confusion and a lack of clarity. No results are achievable in such a state.
