TEARS ACHIEVE LITTLE

John 20:11-12 Now Mary stood outside the tomb crying. As she wept, she bent over to look into the tomb and saw two angels in white, seated where Jesus’ body had been, one at the head and the other at the foot.

Mary stood at the tomb weeping, but from her position, she performed a simple action that in the grande scheme of things did not seem to matter. “She stooped to look inside the tomb”, and that was when she saw the two angels sat where the body of Jesus lay.

When the words “stop crying” or “wipe your tears” are used, depending on the context, it may be deemed as attempting to dampen the emotions of others. But in the context of today’s Gospel, we see that weeping did not achieve very much. That action of stooping to look inside the tomb, revealed to Mary a lot more than the long period of tears.

Surely, there is a place for tears because we are human, but on their own, tears are not always the answer. Often times, even in the midst of a flood of tears, we have to move or take action. Tears will not get you past the places where action is needed.
