WHY FEAR?

Matthew 10:29-31 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

There are some coming of age events that lie at the heart of some cultures. In that reference, there was a story told of a community where the coming of age ceremony required the young men to spend the night alone in a thick forest, bracing the elements and wild animals. The end goal was to survive till morning.

In one instance, the young man, afraid, stayed awake all night. He awoke in the morning only to realise his father had been hiding in the shadows all night, armed with a bow and arrow. The young man’s commented “if I had known my father was watching, I would have rested well”.

That is the story of many Christians: unaware that God is ever present, keeping a watchful eye over us, we journey through life crippled by fear. However, the mapped out life of a sparrow, it will and an accurate record of all the hairs on your head, provides the guarantee that God is watching over you.

Beloved, fear will come knocking, but your assurance is ‘if God be for me, who can be against me?’ That is your guarantee in God that secures our lot.
