NOT AS YOU EXPECT

1 Kings 17:9 Get up and go to Zarephath of Sidon, and stay there. Behold, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.”

For many of us, the dialogue that should follow “I have commanded a widow to feed you” should be these words spoken from the mouth of the widow: ‘Man of God, I have received express instructions to provide food for you while you dwell in this city’. But here is the case the one who apparently had been given this command to feed another, had barely enough to survive on. That was a contrast.

What God really did was to bring the path of the prophet and the widow into collision, with her heart touched to be willing to hear what Elijah had to say. And with that open heart, the words of the Prophet could find grounds to be established – ‘the jar of flour shall not be spent and the jug of oil shall not be empty’. That was how the provision for Elijah was met.

Beloved, whenever God speaks, He does not always do so literally. Therefore, the manner in which He brings things to pass may sway from what we expect. The ways and conditions we are used to will remain, but they do not limit Him from using alternatives. That is what makes Him God.
