FUEL FOR THE FIGHT

Reference text: Mark 10:46-52

Today’s story captures Marks account of the story of blind Bartimaues. Many of us remember the story for two things: his shouts of ‘son of David, have mercy on me’ and his ability to ignore the voices that wanted to hush his call for help.

The focus of today’s discourse is on the  words captured in Mark 10:48a

"And many rebuked him, telling him to be silent."

We know that many rebuked him, but the dimension that crossed my mind was ‘were there any who were enablers?’
Were there any who took a step aside to make his advance towards Jesus easier?
Where they any who guided his bearings to Jesus?
Were they any who dared to nudge him towards Jesus?

Beloved, enabling or encouragement is not always achieved with words, sometimes it is a simple sidestep to ease the advance of others. It is making room for, and accommodating mistakes while learning happens. It may be a gentle nudge in the back to give more momentum, even a pat on the shoulder, or a kind smile.

Many are fighting battles, and for some, a small amount of encouragement is often sufficient fuel to keep them in their fight.
