Mark 11:30-32 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or of men? answer me. And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; he will say, Why then did ye not believe him? But if we shall say, Of men; they feared the people: for all men counted John, that he was a prophet indeed.
There are times when answers go through a series of sequential refinement, to arrive at more superior versions. Each subsequent version is inherently designed to be able to achieve more and do more. This is often achieved in a process of iteration, or continuous improvement.
The Pharisees in today’s Gospel, give us a clear application of this process when Jesus asked the question – they thought through multiple iterations: version one, not suitable, too many downsides. Answer version two: More downsides. They ended up choosing the third option. In the end, they arrived at a response that met their criteria, but in doing so, they missed out on what Jesus would have said.
There is always a version of yourself and your output that is put on display from the beginning, but that cannot be the final version. The initial version can be refined through the word of God, structured mentorship and learning, to become a superior version. Applications and software that stay at initial versions are always blown out of the water by competitors that dare to upgrade and improve.
So don’t get left behind. Don’t stay permanently at version 1.0
