MAINTAINING ALLIANCES

Today, we read about a pairing the Holy Spirit called for: “Paul and Barnabas”. The account of scripture reads “

While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them”(Acts 13:2)

These two had worked well together in Antioch and had a track record to show for it. But regardless of what strategies they had employed in Antioch, this was a new instruction as this time round, it was no longer Barnabas going to Tarsus to look for Paul. The dynamics were different.

God does not simply gather men. Whenever He brings a company together, He does so with clear intent, and not on a whim. Thus, it is worth verifying what roles any one who finds their way into your space is intended to play.

Nonetheless, just because God has put together, does not automate their alignment going forward. Men still carry in them the potential to ‘put asunder’. Relationships in the domain of men, may have divine origins, but beyond resting on divine foundations, they are maintained by frameworks that are natural. Missing out on this could still place God-ordained relationships in jeopardy.
