AN OPPORTUNITY TAKEN

Paul and his companions found themselves in the synagogue on their visit to Antioch. It is unlikely that they were known to that community as teachers, but then we see a rather interesting development:

"After the reading from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue leaders sent word to them: ā€œBrothers, if you have a word of encouragement for the people, please speak.ā€ (Acts 13:15)

We often hear the phrase” when preparation meets opportunity”- and this was a text book example of such a scene played out in scripture. The window of opportunity offered them to speak was “Now” – if you have any words of encouragement, then say it.

Sometimes, we miss out on seasons and opportunities to take action – whether in deed or in words.  The actions required can still be carried once that window passes, but they will not bear the same weight. When we read the chapter further, we will realise that the implications of taking advantage of that single moment offered in the synagogue sent shockwaves throughout the city.

Everything can be done at any time, but all things will not carry the same weight every time.
