FIND WHERE JESUS IS AND FOLLOW

When the audience of Jesus returned to the place proximal to where they had been fed, to their surprise, on arrival neither Jesus nor his disciples could be found. It is the action which follows this realization that forms the focus of our discussion today:

Therefore when the crowd saw that Jesus is not there, nor His disciples, they themselves entered into the boats and went to Capernaum, seeking Jesus" (John 6:24).

Another outcome was possible: to pitch camp and wait for Jesus to return to the site. But they quicly discerned that he had changed locations.

There are many times when we do not realize when God has moved on. We return to the same places of old encounters, the same processes and steps that attained certain results, forgetting that God cannot be put in a box. We approach future problems solely with our knowledge and experience of the past.

The crowd today, regardless of their intention, provided us with a template: “discern when God has moved from a place and move to where He is”. This is because God can leave a home, shift direction, or change His approach. The one who does not discern these motions often misses out and therefore gets left behind.

Your regret might end up with a reverse of the prayer of Jacob in Genesis 28:16 where you say “surely, God was not in this place and I did not know”. Ultimately, your pursuit is not after men, but after Jesus. So find out where He is headed and follow suit.
