Elevators are designed with specific tensile strength in the cables that hold them up. As such, they come with specific weight restrictions so that when these weight restrictions are exceeded, the likelihood of the cable breaking and the elevator free falling according to the law of gravity increase accordingly.

We read today ‘the people were hanging on every word of his.’ We might wonder: ‘were they just attentive because of Jesus’ charisma or as on the road to Emmaus, were their hearts burning as He spoke to them? Did they know that the word had capacity to bear their full weight or were they just winging it?

You hang on something when you are certain it will be able to hold your weight. You can hang on to God’s word because it holds the capacity to power every facet of your life.
