John 20:8 Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed.

Like John, your faith may not be enough to get you INTO the tomb on first arrival, but it can get you TO it. Or just like Peter, your strength may not be enough to get you to the tomb FIRST, but it can get you to it.

Seeing John jet off ahead of him probably told Peter ‘there is still some distance to cover so keep going’. His age may have been his obstacle, but John’s youthful exuberance was one reason Peter also got to the tomb.

Then comes the reversal where John had to piggyback on the faith of Peter to also believe. It took Peter’s initial bold and prompt entry into the tomb to get John to do the same. ‘And he also saw and believed’.

What either men needed then was a gentle pat on the back, a leading example to ensure they each arrived at their intended final destination. Therefore, the lesson is this ‘we need others even on our own journeys through life because we simply cannot go it alone.
