THREAT ASSESSMENT

John 11:48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.

A threat is a mental assessment made after looking carefully at a situation. Different people might perceive different situations with different eyes- thus what one sees as a threat or competition might be seen as not by another.

The pharisees saw Jesus as a clear threat- as one whose actions was likely to cause them to lose their place of influence and even their entire nation.

Here is one thing that follows every threat assessment : an appropriate response is required. In Jesus’ case, the decision was to kill him. It is thus important to make a thorough assessment of every ‘perceived’ threat. A wrong assessment might mean a no-response or an exaggerated response, neither of which brings an advantage.
