DISCERN VALUE

DISCERN VALUE

Luke 11:31 On the Judgment Day the Queen of Sheba will stand up and accuse the people of today, because she traveled all the way from her country to listen to King Solomon's wise teaching; and there is something here, I tell you, greater than Solomon.

Surely there were wise men and women in the Kingdom of Sheba. Surely, in the courts of the Queen there were those who counseled her. Why then did the Queen of Sheba travel miles to listen to Solomon’s wisdom?

In contrast, Jesus was in close proximity to many, worked miracles, signs and wonders with a fame that spread abroad and yet, some would not even listen to Him speak. Another question: why?

Our answer lies in ‘value’. We might expect everyone to see value right before their eyes but if there is one thing we can be sure of, it is the reality that “value has to be discerned”. The inherent value a person or item carries has to be discerned and acknowledge to make it of any relevance.

Anyone who does not knows the value of diamonds has no problem tossing them down the drain. Therefore, while we strive to become people of value, let us also aspire to discern the value others carry. It is the only way to become beneficiaries of what they have.
