EMOTIONS LIKE SPICES

2 Samuel 19:2 And the victory that day was turned into mourning unto all the people: for the people heard say that day how the king was grieved for his son.

Regardless of how much emotions can appeal to the heart of men, it can become a challenge and depending on the kind being projected, it can rub unto everyone around you rather easily, consciously or unconsciously. A room of twenty with one angry man is likely to be filled with 20 angry men as the fires of anger rub on one another.

The servants of King David had won decisively in an uprising when Absalom stood against his father, David. However, there is a twist because David was expecting his son to be spared in the blood bath, a wish which did not happen. Thus, his grieving, an emotion which seemed justified, turned the army’s ‘victory into mourning’.

Emotions then, are like spices, they can literally determine the flavour of whatever you sprinkle them on – including people.

Our emotions can and do influence decisions, let’s not let them be the only determinants though.
