THE SCHOOL OF THE SPIRIT

DAY 299 OF 365 IN 2021

THE SCHOOL OF THE SPIRIT

Romans 8:18 For I consider [from the standpoint of faith] that the sufferings of the present life are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us!

‘Current flows through every path available to it but if offered the choice, it will opt for the the path of least resistance’. The same is true about the life of each of us – no one embraces suffering when there is an alternative route where it can be avoided. We would all be more than happy to pick the path that is easiest to thread on and has minimum resistance.

However, to the Christian, what counts as “suffering” is not always attributable to pain, it can be a school. Thus, a warning I heard in a message a while back comes to mind:  ‘run away from people with results but no stories, those carrying glory but have no scars, they have missed the school of the Spirit.’

We go through different setbacks, lessons and disappointments; we chalk certain laurels, achievements and merits. In simple terms, life is full of many ups and downs, high points and low points. Times when we want to throw in the towel and other times when we are moved to push further forward. That is life, and often times, the School of the Spirit becomes evident in those moments, for in those moments, our character is sharpened and our faith, planted firmer.

It is a school where every level has to be completed for the maturing of the saints. So the warning is reiterated “run away from people with results but no stories, those carrying glory but have no scars, they have missed the school of the Spirit”. I pray each one of us becomes serious students of this school, that we might emerge matured saints.
