BETTER A FRIEND THAN FOE

DAY 291 OF 365 IN 2021

BETTER A FRIEND THAN A FOE

2 Timothy 4:10 For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica. Crescens has gone to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

You can be happy and you can be comfortable. You can do whatever you want to and even have your very own standards of measure. In other words, you can live free as a bird. It comes with one caveat though: ‘you must be in love with this world’. You must fall deeply in love with the things that are temporal and then certainly, you are good to go.

But in such a position comes a stern warning: ‘Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God (James 4:4) In choosing an opponent for battle, one needs to realise the extent to which they can afford to have such an opposition against them. And in all earnestness, the Almighty is the last person you want against you for as the Psalmist declared in

"Psalms 139:7-9 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence? If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there. If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;

Beloved, God is that eye from whom there can be no escape for He sees all, ‘the earth is his footstool’. Rather then than have Him as an enemy, we ought to make Him our ally so that all we would fear, becomes an advantage we have. God will surely serve us better as a friend, than as a foe.
