DAY 259 OF 365 IN 2021

1 Timothy 4:12 Let no one despise your youth, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

A tripod has three legs, any of them when missing is indicative of the absence of balance and falling apart can be expected. Some people are referred to as experts in their field, so much so that when introduced into any other domain other than their forte, they can be compared to fishes out of water. Not that expertise is disregarded, but God desires completeness.

Saint Paul highlights five dimensions in this letter to Timothy, areas in which he was to be an example: in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. He wanted him to become “a true Jack of all trades”. In fact, he desired Timothy to expand and be immersed in all these dimensions, as well as make progress to the degree that it became visible to others.

We often prefer to focus on the areas we are good at, and that is fine. However, the complete Christian walk will require us to embrace dimensions and areas of the journey which do not come very easily to us. We are expected to become to examples across many areas, primarily to ourselves and then to others.

In that regard, we really cannot pick and choose the dimensions we grow in because we do not know what the requirements of those we encounter will be. Therefore, seek to develop across all dimensions.
