DAY 243 OF 365 IN 2021

Luke 4:39 So He stood over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and served them.

What binds you? What or who holds you down? These are questions that will allow multiple pathways of thinking when dissected, but today I want us to follow the specific line of thought provoked by this question “what holds you back from doing what you are meant to do?”

Our text is set in the home of Peter, whose mother in law was left helpless with a fever. It took Jesus to rebuke this ailment. And her response, “she immediately arose and served them as her guests”. That would have been her intention and desire from the very onset, to welcome guests into her home and wait on them, but there she was knocked down and unable to.

Therefore, the question pops up again “what holds you back?” For some people, it might be a circle of friends being the wrong influence, for others, it might be ill-perceived attitudes and behaviours or even misjudged choices. For others, it may  be a multifactorial system of external and internal factors working together. Yet one thing is certain – it takes the breaking apart of chains and bonds before one can rise to do what needs to be done.

Beloved, where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty and of a truth, there is Power in the name of Jesus to break every chain. When Jesus was made aware of her situation, he moved swiftly to act because that is what He wants for us ‘that we walk through life unbound and free’.
