DAY 192 OF 365 IN 2021
Reference text: Mark 6:7-13

OUR SUFFICIENCY IS OF GOD
I many not be a frequent traveller, but every traveller ought to have realised that there are some basics one does not travel without: toiletries, changes of clothing, and the very least, money if you chose to travel very light. However, today’s Gospel text contains a suggestion which will be really difficult to ask many of us to follow.
The disciples were being sent on a mission, but there was a caveat:
Take nothing for the journey except a staff—no bread, no bag, no money in your belts (Mark 6:8)."
“ That would have been a ‘what did you just say’ moment because they were being asked to travel without any of the bare necessities required for the journey.
Many a time, we have confidence in the abundance of our resources, and we pride ourselves in the horses and chariots we posses. However, it is evident that like the disciples, we are being required to abandon our concept of self sufficiency to trust entirely in the providence of God. It is as if Jesus wants our anthem to be “I carry nothing because God holds everything”.
