Deuteronomy 7:7 The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people:
What is your response when you find out the real reason? In many of the love stories we hear, there is a sacrifice made by one party which remains hidden. Behind the reason provided for the action, there is therefore an actual one, the discovery of which usually prompts feelings of deeper love or the pain of regret. Simply put, knowing the real reason triggers a response far different from the one initially put forward.
Israel are given the real reason why they were chosen, and contrary to their own assertion, they were chosen based on an entirely different spectrum of traits than they believed. Not chosen out of sheer size, but because of God’s love for them and His oath to their fathers. To God, fulfilling those promises were a big deal and fulfilling them He did.
Very often, others shroud their real reasons for specific actions, but to break any impasse and establish lasting trust, God put the real reasons on the table. That beloved, ought to also be our starting point. Because while ‘feasible’ reasons may seem acceptable, in many instances they are just coated responses. Those reasons won’t always sound nice, but there are just moments when plating and coating don’t hit home as the much as offering actual reasons.
