WHO NEEDS THE STORM ?

The last three days have been what everyone will describe as uncomfortable. There were two days of all day rain, and on Sunday, a storm hit with wind speeds up to 80 miles per hour. However, as I walked home from Mass, a question came to mind ‘who benefitted from this storm?’

One noticeable feature evident throughout the storm is the sheer increase in the number of fallen leaves. In autumn, deciduous trees and shrubs naturally shed their leaves to prepare for the cold snap of winter and save energy. So for those plants, this storm was no mistake, but came with a purpose.

So here was the lesson for me: “To some, a storm may only a nuisance, a disruption that causes harm to lives and property without serving any other purpose. But to others, it comes as a force for accelerating preparation. Thus, not every storm you face is intended to sweep you off your feet, some come to speed up your readiness for what is coming next.
