GOD REWARDS WATCHFUL WAITING

Reference text: Luke 12:35-38

Today’s parable captures the story of servants awaiting the return of their master from a wedding feast. In the parable, we see an interesting scene: ‘When the master found servants  waiting, the tables turned and those servants became those being served.’

Thus, even though waiting can be seen as delay, with the right mind set, the time spent in waiting can be counted as tokens that is rewarded.

The summary message thus is “God rewards waiting”. However, not just any kind of waiting. The men in waiting were to be ready to “open the door once their master came knocking”. So this waiting was not just hanging around, it was to be done with an expectation of noticing the arrival of the master and immediately responding.

You can appear to be waiting, but be very distracted from the objective of your waiting. Like waiting at a bus stop but with eyes so glued to your phone that you notice the bus only after it has passed you by.

You can ‘play waiting’, and miss the masters arrival.
