SOME THINGS ARE ONLY GIVEN

Daniel 7:14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

A bit of an unpopular statement from the epistle of Saint Paul is the introduction to our discourse today and it reads thus: “What is so special about you? What do you have that you were not given? And if it was given to you, how can you brag?(1 Corinthians 4:7).

Reading our text from the book of Daniel, the scene in view captures a coronation ceremony with one statement catching our attention: ‘He was given’ which simply means ‘handed over by another’. ‘To be given’ means to receive what you don’t have, or more of what you already have from a source that has it in stock.

Hence, here is the lesson from today text: not everything is taken, there are many things which are given in recognition of hardwork, service, sacrifice, or value. So ask yourself two questions:

  • What have I been trying so hard, but unsuccessfully to take?
  • How do I rather reposition myself to receive this?
