FOCUS ON THE WHEAT

Reference text: Matthew 13:24-43

The reference parable of interest is the parable of the wheat and weeds, and in our discourse today, we focus on the brief discussion between the servants and the master after the weeds were discovered. The verses of focus:

"The servants asked him, ‘Do you want us to go and pull them up?’ “‘No,’ he answered, ‘because while you are pulling the weeds, you may uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest (13:28-30a)

Our hearts aren’t filled only with good and pure intentions because alongside them, there exists temptations and wrong desires. However, we choose the direction in which we yield daily.
There are two ways to approach this: focusing on uprooting the temptations and wrong desires, or amplifying the good and pure intentions. The latter appears to be the preference because the servants were told ‘leave them alone’.

In other words, don’t focus your attention on the weeds. Unfortunately, that is what many of us are inclined to doing:  we use up all our energy fighting weaknesses and limitations that we forget to celebrate and nurture strengths and advantages. So the bottom line is don’t focus so much on uprooting weeds in the field, that you forget to cultivate the wheat.
