A WAY OF ESCAPE

In our Gospel today, we read about a conference organized by the Pharisees. The central theme of their assembly according to scripture was:  ‘Jesus; how to destroy him’. And mind you, that gathering considered killing him a very viable option if that was what it required.

The text therefore was clear on two things: the intentions of the Pharisees and the response of Jesus. We read in Matthew 12:14-15a: ‘

Then the Pharisees went out, and held a council against him, how they might destroy him. But when Jesus knew it, he withdrew himself from there

There are times when people think they understand the intentions of others, only to end up with altered perceptions of what others really meant. However, when intentions have been made clear, there is often little else to do than to respond accordingly.

If we use the life of Jesus as a case study, right from the days of his infancy through to his adult years, attempts were made on his life. Escaping was a common theme once insight was received into such plans. So you, whenever you become aware of evil intentions set in motion against you, don’t hang around awaiting their execution when there is an escape route – withdraw quickly.

It is not always you charge head first towards danger, sometimes the recommended direction is to run away from danger.
