WHAT ELSE WILL SATISFY?

DAY 133

John 14:17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.

Man is a creature that constantly pursues more. In fact, there appears to be no end to the desires of men because at every stage in life, there is a thirst for more than what that level offers. The mind easily gets satisfied with current affairs and so is always on the move for more.

God is very much aware of this and so had to do something about it. He thought ‘what would be enough as a gift for this insatiable appetite? St Augustine wrote ‘God you have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until it rests in you’.

God therefore gave us the gift of himself. Yet, we have not been satisfied. We have received all of God, His very life and still have not been satisfied. So the question that arose from Mass this afternoon was ‘
if God isn’t enough, is there anything that will?

Are we not satisfied because we have  not actually received the gift He has given or is it that we do not know what we have received? Do we actually know what it means to have God with and in us?
