FAITH COMES THROUGH THE WORD

Reference text: John 4:5-42

The entrance of your God’s word indeed brings light. There are days when  some verses of scripture don’t appear to make real sense or seem really relatable until another word corroborates. Almost as through scripture complements itself. The Gospel of today is a rather long read, but in short, it is the story of the encounter between Jesus and the Samaritan woman at the well.

Tge homily at Mass appeared to summarise their encounter in one statement “Faith needs to grow“. While reflecting on this on my walk home, a verse came to mind ‘faith comes by hearing, hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17)’

We realise a sequential change in position as the conversation between those two deepened: from calling Jesus “a Jew” at first, the woman’s addresses changed  to ‘Sir’, then ‘Prophet’ then ‘the  Christ’. Her faith had increased from being enemies  with Jesus, to acknowledging him as Saviour. The entire process was under the expert guidance of the Word of God.

So faith needs to grow, but it remains watered only under the rain of the Word of God.
