DAY 53

Matthew 6:1 Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
There is something about the human spirit that makes it seek recognition, praise and affirmation at every chance. You might therefore realise that by default, people tend to gravitate towards places and people where this need is met. This is true both in natural and spiritual things
If people are recognised for praying or fasting, they may end up doing those harder and for longer. If they are affirmed for looking good, they pull out all stops to look even better at the next opportunity. As natural as these might seem, they are counterproductive where true maturity is the end goal.
In the things that pertain to godliness, our focus on doing things to “be seen by others”, takes our eyes off God and places the spotlight on ourselves. That is why many of our presses into God yield no results because from the very start, He was never the reason for our pursuit. Instead, we were fueled by a desire for claps and praise from the lips of men.
Beloved, rewards come in levels, men give, but so does God. However, we could easily spend much of our lives feeding off those from men that we never make room to receive of God. That is a great loss because the depths of reward men can give, are not as deeply rooted as those in God.
