DAY 33

Mark 6:14b-15 Some people thought He was John the Baptist, who had come back to life with the power to work miracles. Others thought he was Elijah or some other prophet who had lived long ago.
We read about Herod who heard about Jesus because he had become so well known. His name echoed in every sphere of the land. The questions that came to mind were “what was He known for and who was He known as?” This is crucial because how you are known carries significant weight also.
From the account of scripture, He was compared to John the Baptist and the Prophets of old. These men were held in high esteem, therefore, the Jesus had quite a good name in town. Proverbs 22:1 reads “A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.”
Regardless of the sphere of life or field of endeavour you find yourself in, regardless of the scope of your influence, dare I ask ‘what name best characterises you whether in your absence or presence?’ I am not asking about the actual birth name you respond to, but the primary associations that will be made when your name comes up.
The amplified version is however quick to add that a good name does not just happen. Thus, it renders Proverbs 22:1 as follows “A good name [earned by honorable behavior, godly wisdom, moral courage, and personal integrity] is more desirable than great riches;”
You will not simply be rewarded with a good name just because you existed, but because you lived a life that was worthy of esteeming. Do you have a good name?
