Luke 1:34 Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?
Mary finds herself as the recipient of an angelic visitation. In this particular encounter, she is told all that will happen to her. In fact, a very detailed account of who will be born through her, what His name will be, and what his assignment would be.
After attempting to discern what kind of encounter this was, the words of the Angel had filled in some gaps. Thus, after moments of soaking all this in, Mary asks only one question: ‘How will this be since I am a virgin?’
Thus to her, while the what and who were detailed enough, her concern was ‘the how’ – the manner in which what has been said would be executed. In fact, in a short space of time, she seemed to have already figured out the biggest flaw in the blueprint presented to her – she was a virgin. At least she thought that was an issue until she realised her status as one was exactly the blueprint God had in mind.
So what, we might say? You just told us a long story. We read in ‘Proverbs 25:2 ‘It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter’. There is something about God that seems to make Him leave out crucial details of his plan, ‘the how’, so that in our quest to search it out, we draw closer to Him.
Because in searching out any matter, if the ‘what, where and who’ came from God, there is no reason to find an alternative source for the ‘How’, just ask Him coz He knows.
