CHANGE WHAT FILLS YOUR MIND
Acts 15:24 Since we have heard that some persons have gone out from us and troubled you with words, unsettling your minds, although we gave them no instructions,
In today’s text, we get a glimpse into the destructive power of spoken words. We can contrast this with the creative dimension where with one word of permission from God ‘let there be’, there was. Therefore, when people say certain words to us, depending on the nature of those words, they could have the impact highlighted in the text ‘unsettle our minds and trouble our soul’.
We then could begin to internalise and ponder on those spoken words to a degree that their impact become profound. However, the negative, demeaning, or discouraging words we heard are not us – for we are more than that. Whatever God has deposited within, grants us the alternative not to ponder on words that unsettle our minds, but those that remind us of our place in God. So as Paul writes to the Phillipians:
'Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honourable, whatever things are right, whatever things are pure, whatever things are pleasing, whatever things are commendable, if there is any excellence of character and if anything praiseworthy, think about these things(Phil 4:8).
These are what we ought to fill our minds with and for you, today might be the time to start.
