John 12:5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to the poor?
The very fact that Judas and Mary each had very different plans for the same bottle of ointment takes us on a brief journey into the psyche of others. Sometimes, we will never truly understand the reasons why people do the things they do, but often, we can be certain that there is a reason why others do the things they do.
For the same set of actions, there could be a variety of reasons for executing them. So someone’s hobby might be another’s career.
We are really therefore not placed to be judges in all matters, exerting what we presume as the ‘better course of action’ regarding a particular decision. For all you know, those at the epicentre might have different reasons for doing them, something that might be a big deviation from our expectations.
