IT’S IN YOUR HANDS

We read some last minute negotiation tactic to guarantee the preservation of the fig tree in today’s Gospel some more time. That more time translates to exactly one year.

Within the gardener’s conversations with the vineyard owner, we realise that he uses words that offer no guarantee of certainty, but rather probabilities. “Sir, let it alone for one more year while I dig around it and fertilize it. Perhaps it will bear fruit next year. ” Or perhaps, it will not. But that was entirely out of his hands for his role would have been to buy more time and nurture the tree.

Sometimes, the only thing others can do for you is provide you with the tools you need. To equip you with the opportunities and resources to produce the results expected of you. As to what becomes of provision, it rests entirely in your own hands as the recipient.

That is the message we glean for our reflection.
