THE LIMITATION OF MEN
37/365
Luke 5:5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.”
These were Peters words ‘Master, we have toiled all night but caught nothing’. This was no ordinary man making a random speech, this was a man who had been fishing all his life for a living. Now, he found himself telling Jesus ‘all night, we have used all the experience we have and referred to all the techniques and tricks in our collection. We have launched on all sides and waited that all night and yet have nothing to show for it.
This was the point of man acknowledging a limit- a cap to what he could do by his own ability. Then the instruction ‘let down your net for a catch’. Your skill stays, but now you have my added presence and that should make the difference.
When Paul told the Corinthians ‘by the grace of God, I am what I am, it was not a way of courtesy, that was his acknowledgement of what the hand of God can do in the life of a yielded vessel’. With your skills in hand and your feet treading on God- led-paths, there is no feat you can’t attain.
