A PRICE TO PAY
It’s easy to see king Solomon as ‘that guy who got lucky with God’. Lucky enough to be visited in a dream and given the opportunity to ask for whatever he wanted. And to crown it all, even those things he did not ask for, were given to him – seemingly on a silver platter.
You will be mistaken to think such for the story of Solomon is a prime example of ‘paying the price’. We usually quickly rush on to the discourse between God and Solomon that we read past the words ‘
'Now the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there, for that was the great high place: Solomon offered a thousand burnt offerings on that altar.'(1 Kings 3:4)
In those words lie a great lesson for our times because for whatsoever one desires, there is a price to pay! Even with God, there is a sacrifice that must be placed on the altar: a sacrifice of your commitment, your time, your obedience, your resources and even sometimes, an offer of your entire self. To launch further and deeper, you will have to pay a price and until one comes to that point, you aren’t ready to receive that which you seek.
