LOVE IS NOT A WALK IN THE PARK
1 Corinthians 13:4-8
Love is kind and patient,
never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude.
Love isn’t selfish or quick tempered.
It doesn’t keep a record of wrongs that others do.
Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil.
Love is always supportive,
loyal, hopeful, and trusting.
Love never fails!
It is easy for our primary line of thought after having a read of today’s text to conclude that love is simply a list of dos and don’ts, a collection of actions and inhibitions.
Such thinking is challenged because the charge to love, as detailed in 1 Corinthians 13, is more than actions and inhibitions. It suggests some hard work because all the things love is- patient, kind, loyal etc, humans are naturally not. On the flip side, all love is not- selfish, jealous, ill tempered, and proud; we tend rather to easily be.
It requires then a real transformation of our hearts and minds to come into proper alignment with love the way God perceives it. Love then, isn’t just a walk in the park, but one that requires every ounce of our commitment to attain because love is hard work.
