IGNORING THE SEASON WILL COST YOU
For context, kindly read the scripture reference above which details the story of the events surrounding David and Bathsheba, as well as the circumstances which culminated in the death of Urriah the Hittite; Bathsheba’s husband.
Since the spring season was a time for ‘kings’ to be at the forefront of battle, it was unusual for David to be at home hence the emphasis on ‘but David remained in Jerusalem'(11:4). That one decision was the trigger point for all the events which unfolded: choice->indiscipline->lust->greed->adultery->lies->murder.
To be fair, the chain can be much longer.
All these occur because he completely ignored the season. It did not matter how much he trusted Joab and the fighting men of Israel, as king, spring was the season to be at war. Of course seasons come and go for scripture says ‘“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.(Gen 8:22”)
The seasons will therefore repeat, however every missed season will come at a steep cost, a cost one would have to bear.
