HOLD ON TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS

DAY 355 OF 365 IN 2021

Luke 1:45 Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill his promises to her!”

It takes having expectations for one to be disappointed. These words can be rearranged to say ‘you can only be disappointed if you have expectations’. So by further inferences, I guess to insulate our hearts from any heartbreaking disappointments, we ought to rule out expectations completely from our lives. Or should we?

It is a near impossible feat to achieve ‘a life devoid of expectations’ because not just the ground shattering occurrences, but the very fundamental things in life, are built on expectation.

You drink water and eat expecting your thirst and hunger to be satisfied. You jump in a personal car expecting the engine to start or hop on a bus expecting the driver to take you towards a destination you have in mind. You just jump into a chair without much thought because the default expectation is that it to hold your weight up.

Our lives are thus littered with expectation. The reality of course is that while there will be moments when the things we expect of other people will not be done leaving us disappointed, God still wants us to have expectations because He grants the desires of the righteous (Proverbs 10:17) and their expectations, He does not cut short (Prov. 23:18).

Happy then are we who look forward to the fulfilment of His promises to us.
