DAY 342 OF 365 IN 2021

GOD IS LOOKING FOR SOMEBODY, NOT JUST ANYBODY
Luke 1:26, 27 And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth, To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
We often say ‘God uses anybody’, and that is a truth. However, we will come to realise that for specific purposes and assignments, those who were used by God must have had a particular skillset, experiences, trainings or stories that made them fit for the task they were being called into.
We can take an example in Peter and Andrew, whose call involved the use of the statement ‘I will make you fishers of men’. They were already fishers of fish! We could also cast our eyes on Moses, whose training as a Hebrew in the house of Pharaoh made him the ideal man for delivering Israel. Or David whose training time hanging out with sheep prepared him to be a giant slayer.
Today also, we read about Mary who fitted into the description of ‘a virgin from Nazareth in Galilee betrothed to a man named Joseph of the House of David’. That was the exact criteria that the womb which would carry the son of God had to fulfil.
Let us not deceive ourselves into thinking that God is in the business of going round choosing everybody, because that is hardly it. He is looking for ‘somebody’, but not just anybody. Every vessel of honour has to satisfy specific criteria because God is not a God of chaos or accidents. He knows what He is looking for and we can fall into his plans by also getting ourselves ready in any way possible.
In the simplest of words, ‘if you expect a car as a gift, you ought to work to get yourself a driving licence’ Don’t just stay idle, get yourself ready.
