DAY 319 OF 365 IN 2021

Luke 18:37,38 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.

‘Jesus of Nazareth is passing by.’ Those were the echoes of the crowd in response to the blind man who wondered what exactly was going and what all the commotion was about. But in that moment, we need not find the prompt response of this blind man confounding. In fact, we ought to rather realise it was proportionate to the situation he found himself in: ‘Jesus was passing by’ and he did not know when that would recurr.

Therefore, the desperation with which he called out was there for all to see.
For us however, it is very different. Jesus does not just pass by, instead he says ‘if anyone hears my voice and opens the door, we will come in and we will dine with him’. That was not an encounter in passing, but an opportunity to sit with the King.

Perhaps, it is this that makes us star struck, standing in awe not knowing what to do when we sit at dinner with Him. Maybe, we would have preferred a chance encounter that had no lingering aftermath but here is the drill ‘the kind of relationship God wants with us is one that is continuous. One that comprises multiple sit downs and many heart to heart talks because that is the heart God has towards us.
