DAY 293 OF 365 IN 2021

TO ALL WHO WIELD POWER
Luke 12:42 And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season?
Today’s message comes as a blunt warning, a warning to those who wield power and authority. To the steward in the text, Power was given for a definite reason and purpose: ‘to ensure that the household has its needs met at the right time’. Hence, there is concern when the steward forgets that the authority they wielded was not to satisfy their own whims, but for the purposes of fulfilling a set task.
Often when people are set in positions of authority, they lay claim to them. They possess them as though they earned them as keepsakes. Many rise to positions of power and forget why they were called into office- they become oblivious to the assignment that comes with the office in which they stand.
Beloved, to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more. What then about they to whom God has entrusted much? Power does have a way of making its wielders drunken, unconscious of the fundamental intent and purposes for which the power they wield was given.
Just like Jesus spoke to the Apostles, ‘when the Holy Spirit comes, you shall receive Power and you will be my witnesses’ (Acts 1:8). That power was for the fulfilment of a specified task. So to all of us who wield some form of power and authority, what are we doing with it?
