DAY 269 OF 365 IN 2021
GOD IS NOT LIMITED
Mark 9:38 John said to him, “Teacher, we saw a man who was driving out demons in your name, and we told him to stop, because he doesn't belong to our group.”
There are traits or characteristics that identify members of a particular group, it may be specific badge, symbol, greeting or expression, to name a few. Therefore, anyone not possessing those traits is likely to face a hostile reception. We could use the example of an unlicensed surgeon in the operating theatre.
Thus, the response of the disciples to the man driving out demons in the name of Jesus should not be deemed strange, but kind of be expected. In addition, we cannot truly say we are any different because we are also rather possessive, whether of religion or of association. Those who belong with us are welcome, those who don’t, are kept at an arms length.
However, like Jesus asking his disciples not to stop the man in question, we will come to the realisation that regardless of what we think, God is not limited by our planning or thinking.
“God works where God works, not only in places predetermined by us or with persons deemed acceptable by our very own standards.”
Let us not concern ourselves with worrying about whether God is doing a good job because we cannot do a better one than He is. Let God be God.
