GET READY AND REMAIN READY
DAY 238 OF 365 IN 2021
Matthew 24:43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
Today’s text brought back some memories of a video that was making rounds on social media recently. It was a video showing the surprise and anger on the face of potential – victims when they received courtesy letters from robbers providing them with specific dates when they would be paying visits to their neighbourhoods. One could not help but laugh at the sheer audacity on exhibition.
Regardless, it is worth asking that if you were a recipient of such a letter, what would you have done? Buy a weapon? Hide your valuables? Or would you strengthen and change your locks?
We know for fact that certainty triggers a level of prompt response that is absent in an atmosphere of uncertainty. From our text today, it is clear that God has kept us in suspense and left us with a cliffhanger of when He will come. But the question that comes to mind is this “What if God offered us certainty and guarantee? What if He provided us with a definite date for his arrival? Would we change anything or do things any differently than we currently are now?
If we are truly committed to change in the midst of certainty, then it does suggest we are capable of change in spite of the apparent “uncertainty”. Yet, God has never given us mixed messages, from the very start, there has been certainty of this ‘He will come again! Everyday of our lives should therefore be lived embracing this certainty and in preparation for His coming. Let us then be and stay ready at all times.
