THE BANQUET OF THE LAMB

DAY 231 OF 365 IN 2021

Matthew 22:9-10 So go to the street corners and invite to the banquet anyone you find.’ So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, the bad as well as the good, and the wedding hall was filled with guests.

It is not unexpected for weddings to have a guest list. So for the king to send his servants first to call the invited guests was a no brainer. Unfortunately,  all of the invited guests declined and this created room for the invitation to be extended to the general public.

By making this offer, they got a wide array of guests attending. It is fair to say that the servants would have told anyone they found “you are invited to a wedding feast” and would have given the location. If it was today, they would also have provided the wedding colours and the dress code if applicable. Thus by default, the wedding guests were expected to be dressed for the occasion. So the man found not appropriately dressed was cast out.

Beloved, to be admitted into the wedding feast of the father, there is only one garment deemed acceptable – that garment is Jesus. For anyone who accepts this invitation, they have to put off their old self and put on Jesus. He is the only garment deemed acceptable at the banquet of the lamb. No excuse is.
