GOING BACKWARDS
DAY 183 OF 365 IN 2021
Genesis 2:5-6 The servant said to him, “Suppose the woman is not willing to follow me to this land; should I take your son back to the land from where you came?” Abraham answered him, “Make sure that you don’t take my son back there.
We read about Abraham tasking his most trusted servant to return to his homeland to pick a wife for Isaac. Among the many concerns, the servant asked ‘if the woman does not wish to come, can I take Isaac along with me? That in itself seemed advantageous because if his presence would have ensured that he obtained a wife from among a people his father approved, then it would have been a successful trip.
However, to this proposition, Abraham was vehemently opposed. In his own words ‘you must not take Isaac back there’. In Abraham’s mind therefore, no reason was strong enough to translate Isaac from the land of promise to his homeland.
Beloved, take note of this ‘even the very best of intentions can still set you backwards and shift your focus out of where God wants you to be. The things that cause us to stray away from the place of destiny do not always have to appear with a big ‘bad’ tag on them, they could very well appear to be in our interest and thrust us further away from our promised land.
May we receive grace to remain planted and not be translated outside God’s best for us.
