DAY 170 OF 365 IN 2021
WEARING YOURSELF WITH WORRY
It is often difficult to tell anyone not to worry, particularly when you do not stand in their shoes. Since they are the ones tending the fire, they seem best placed to express the intensity of heat they feel from it. But today, Jesus dares to wade into everybody’s business with a charge not to become consumed with worry regarding the affairs of life.
Here are the words Jesus uses in Matthew 6:26-27, words which in themselves, speak volumes:
"Here is the bottom line: do not worry about your life. Don’t worry about what you will eat or what you will drink. Don’t worry about how you clothe your body. Living is about more than merely eating, and the body is about more than dressing up. Look at the birds in the sky. They do not store food for winter. They don’t plant gardens. They do not sow or reap—and yet, they are always fed because your heavenly Father feeds them.
And you are even more precious to Him than a beautiful bird. If He looks after them, of course He will look after you. Worrying does not do any good; who here can claim to add even an hour to his life by worrying?
Beloved, in your situation, you might have come to the conclusion that the only thing you can do is worry, but here is some truth: “you can weary yourself with worry’.
